1. Make sure that, before you begin, you have all the required personal hygiene items.
  2. Before washing the patient, protect the bed with a special waterproof cover.
  3. Start the bath by washing the face and then the ears and throat.
  4. Continue by washing the arms and the torso. Make sure all washed body parts are thoroughly dry. Don’t use a towel to rub the skin.
  5. Particularly dry body parts should just be carefully patted dry.
  6. Turn the body in the direction that makes it easier for you to wash the back.
  7. When you reach the feet, make sure you clean well between the toes.
  8. Don’t forget to dry them well; no body part should stay humid.
  9. A good massage with special pharmaceutical preparation or hypoallergenic cosmetics after the bath would benefit the skin and activate the pores.
  10. Protect areas that are in contact with the bed for long periods and which are more at risk from bed sores than other body parts, by using special pharmaceutical cosmetics that moisturize and protect the skin.
  11. Remember to brush the teeth or dentures after each meal and to comb hair at least one a day.
  12. Change the patient’s clothes and bedding as often as required, thus avoiding his/her exposure to high levels of moisture.

Don’t forget that the skin’s condition mainly depends on the care you provide. By following these instructions, you will reduce the patient’s pain and save yourself extra work in the case of a recurring condition.
